World Peace? June 16, 2009

This is purely a philosophical question.  Last night while I was watching a WWI show on the military channel a commercial came on.  The commercial was about world hunger.  This had me thinking, if we had world peace prior to WWI what would the world population be at now?  This is not a post in favor of war or anything like that, it’s just a philosophical question.

The current concerns regarding a sustainable population around 2040 (the population currently  grows at approx 1 billion every 12 or so years) has me wondering if not for the wars leading up to now what would the population have been without them and would we have a sustainability issue now?

There are a lot of variables on this question (i.e. Khmer Rouge, Rwanda genocides etc) but I would be interested to know what would we have now if we had world peace then?
